Mythographien des Werdens – werdende Mythographie. Utopische und dystopische Vergegenwärtigungen von Atlantis in der literarischen Moderne

Der vorliegende Artikel untersucht aus einer vergleichenden Perspektive die Darstellung von Atlantis in der französischen und italienischen Literatur der Moderne. Ausgehend von neueren theoretischen Ansätzen zur Mythographie wird Atlantis als Prototyp einer im Entstehen begriffenen Welt verstanden, wie sie für den Mythos typisch ist. Unter Bezugnahme auf Platon wird ein Schwerpunkt auf die literarische Rezeption von Atlantis gelegt, die von Anfang an in den utopischen Diskurs und die Reflexion eines Idealstaates eingeschrieben ist. Dabei wird der Übergang vom Paradigma des Raumes zum Paradigma der Zeit im utopischen Diskurs betrachtet, der zugleich die zunehmende Hinwendung zu einer katastrophalen Vorstellungswelt markiert. Innerhalb dieser Diskursverschiebung avanciert Atlantis zu einer metamythischen Denkfigur. Die Werke Atlantide. I Figli dell’abisso (1901) von Enrico Novelli und L’Éternel Adam (1910) von Verne dienen als Textkorpus.

The present article examines, from a comparative perspective, the representation of Atlantis in French and Italian modernist literature. Based on recent theoretical approaches to mythography, Atlantis is understood as a prototype of a world in the making, as is typical for myth. With reference to Plato, a focus is placed on the literary reception of Atlantis, which, from the very beginning, is inscribed in the utopian discourse and the reflection of an ideal state. Thereby, the point of transition from the paradigm of space to the paradigm of time in the utopian discourse is considered, which at the same time marks the increasing turn towards a catastrophic world of imagination. Within this shift of discourse, Atlantis advances to a meta-mythical figure of thought. The works Atlantide. I Figli dell’abisso (1901) by Enrico Novelli and L’Éternel Adam (1910) by Verne serve as text corpus.
