Canadian Ecologies Beyond Environmentalism: Culture, Media, Art, Ethnicities illustrates the multidimensional understanding of the term ‘ecology’ which transcends its connection to the natural environment. This volume highlights the necessity of a transdisciplinary approach to the manifold ecologies of our present time and thus promotes an awareness of the interconnectedness of human and non-human life, literature, the media and technology. Particularly in times of the Anthropocene, which is characterized by climate change and the ongoing destruction of the natural environment, this volume is a significant and meaningful contribution to the ongoing scholarly discourse. Each of the nine chapters, which are organized into three key subject areas, emphasizes the increasing demand for new literary and non-literary forms to communicate and tackle the (environmental) crisis of the twenty-first century. While the organization of the volume in triads is helpful, the thematic overlap between the individual chapters occasionally undermines its proposed structure.
