Anna Baldwin: A Guidebook to Piers Plowman

Anne Baldwin, whose thoughtful book on the Theme of Government in Piers Plow - man (D. S. Brewer, 1981) already showed an impressive familiarity with the poem and many of its problems has, in the course of the quarter century since its publication, evident ly gained an equally impressive experience in teaching this difficult text. Her “Guidebook” is clearly designed to meet the need for a strategy for making it accessible to a generation of readers grown up within religious and intellectual traditions that have very little in common with the questions disturbing the poem’s narrator.
