Early Victorian Thoughts on the Land of Poets and Thinkers Notes on British-German Intellectualism at the beginning of the Long Century
This article explores the meaning of ‘intellectualism’ in the first phase of Victorianism, with particular reference to its perception of tendencies in German thought of the time. To a certain extent this phase in our common, and yet distinctly different, histories of thought stands at the beginning of the ‘modern’ formation of ‘isms’.
